Associate Director of Adult Ministry
The Jesuit Spiritual Center at Milford seeks an Associate Director of Adult Ministry to assist the Director with the preparation and implementation of all facets of adult retreats with a focus on women’s ministry. An applicant must have training and experience in Ignatian Spirituality, based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. Responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the adult ministry program; planning, preparing, staffing, and facilitating retreats and programs; and working collaboratively with retreat directors, spiritual directors, pastoral associates, and parish ministers. The applicant must excel in group facilitation and communication skills. This position does require evening and weekend work. JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Associate Director of Adult Ministry
Status: 40 hours a week (with some evening & weekends required)
Reporting relationship: The Associate Director of Adult Ministry reports to the Director of Adult Ministry.
Primary Functions: The Associate Director of Adult Ministry collaborates with the Director of Adult Ministry and the Jesuit Spiritual Center Ministry Team in developing, coordinating, and implementing Personally Directed Retreats, the Spiritual Direction Internship, and 30 day retreats. They also serve as a spiritual director for men’s and women’s Ignatian Weekend Retreats sponsored by the Jesuit Spiritual Center.
Responsibilities:
- Coordination of Personally Directed Retreats, including the formation of teams and on-site coordination and direction during the retreats
- Co-Director of the Spiritual Direction Internship Program. These duties include recruiting and selecting interns, overseeing the program and curriculum and teaching, coordinating supervisors, and providing supervision
- Available for Spiritual Direction during Conference Retreats as well as with those seeking ongoing spiritual direction or supervision
- Build-up and maintain the women’s retreat ministry at the Jesuit Spiritual Center
- Participates in all employee meetings and ministry staff meetings
- Consults, collaborates, and communicates with the Executive Director, Director of Adult Ministry, Director of Youth Ministry, Administration Staff and Support Staff in the Mission of the Center
- Performs other related duties and task as needed or as assigned by the Director of Adult Ministry
Qualifications:
- Has an understanding and appreciation of retreat ministry, Ignatian Spirituality, spiritual direction, and the Society of Jesus
- Has pastoral experience in retreat ministry
- Has an ability to work with diverse populations (those of various ethnic, racial, and social backgrounds, etc.)
- Understands adult pedagogy and is effective in teaching adults
- Has effective pastoral skills
- Has effective public speaking skills
- Is flexible in adapting to a variety of work situations
- Can maintain the necessary confidentiality
- Is self-motivated in work responsibilities
- Works well with others in a collaborate and team oriented approach to ministry
- Possesses strong organizational and time management skills
- Has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a field related to ministry
