Youth Ministry
For over 70 years, the Jesuit Spiritual Center’s Youth Ministry Team has been committed to offering transformational retreat experiences in the Jesuit tradition. Today we serve over 7,000 young men and women on over 70 retreats each year.
Our Approach
Custom Design
Our retreats are custom designed; we write the retreat specifically for your school or parish based on your needs.
Outcome Based
Our outcome-based approach to retreat design puts the faith formation of each disciple first.
Shared Ministry
We collaborate with our ministry partners to best support and enrich all you already do with those in your care.
Our Retreats
Our retreats introduce young men and women to Ignatian Spirituality and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Like physical and mental exercise, spiritual exercise is important for our whole being. Encountering God’s loving presence is central to our retreats. We invite retreatants to encounter God on retreat through the sacraments, silence, prayer, fellowship, experiential learning, activities, music, faith sharing, and more.
We offer a variety of retreats, hosted either here at the Jesuit Spiritual Center at Milford or on your own campus. Our first step is always to meet with you to discuss the goals and needs for your desired retreat program. We then collaborate with you to design a retreat that makes your vision a reality. We value our ministry partners and want you to have the opportunity to be engaged with your students on retreat and fully participate in their experience. After the retreat, we will sit down with you and review both your feedback and your retreatant’s feedback so that we can refine our programming and grow in our shared ministry.
FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
We offer a variety of retreats, including (but not limited to) Confirmation retreats, class retreats, all-school retreats, youth group retreats, and even staff retreats. With that being said, we are always happy to explore new and unique retreat opportunities.
Yes! Our team has traveled all the way to Alabama and is wiling to come to your campus or retreat site. We routinely travel to schools and parishes in the Greater Cincinnati area. We even have a utility van to transport our materials. Whether you are near or far, we would love to go on retreat with you.
If you are interested in planning a retreat with us, you can reach out to Daniel Poat, our Director, either via email or phone. Next, we will meet with you personally or virtually to discuss the time, location, size and type of group, the content of the retreat itself, and pricing. Once the details have been worked out, you’ll sign a contract to secure your date and pricing. Then, we will stay in touch with you up to the time of the retreat to ensure that any last-minute needs are met and that the retreat is a success.
While much of a retreat depends on things like time, size, and theme, all of our retreats share some basic components.
Prayer, for instance, is fundamental to every retreat. We especially try to include some form of Ignatian prayer, such as the Examen, a reflective prayer that recalls the events of the day and the presence of God in it, or Ignatian Contemplation, an imaginative style of prayer that focuses on Scripture.
Silence is another fundamental component of our retreats. The Ignatian spiritual tradition places immense value on silence. Therefore, we try to include, whenever possible, ample time for retreatants to engage in personal silent reflection.
Our retreats also typically include various “ISEs” or Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. These are essentially activities or games that have some meaning which relates to the theme of the retreat or session.
We also include some form of faith sharing or teaching in every retreat. Oftentimes this takes the form of a “witness,” where one of our staff gives a personal witness to how God worked in their life.
Many of our retreats also include mass or adoration, as well as reconciliation.
Ultimately what our retreats include are largely decided by collaborative discussions with our ministry partners. We strive to meet your varied and unique needs, and to create a retreat that brings your vision to life.
How did we do?
After the retreat we will provide you with evaluation data from your youth which you can share with other adult leaders in your school or parish.
This retreat helped me regain some of the conversation I had lost with God.
I wish I had more time for this (silence) – It made me feel really peaceful.
The opportunity to be completely surrounded by my faith, instead of just for an hour, opened new doors.
